Name: Jugglus Juggler
Door: Left

Canon: Ultraman Orb
Canon Point: Episode 20

Age: Four thousand, but looks 30-ish
Appearance: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/ultra/images/4/48/Jugglus_Juggler_I.png or https://readtiger.com/img/wkp/en/UltramanOrbJugglusJuggler.jpg

History: http://ultra.wikia.com/wiki/Jugglus_Juggler

Personality:
Dark – That's an ambiguous word that could cover a lot of ground, but it's one that he would use to describe himself. The world he comes from divides the powers that be into Light and Dark, which more or less correlates to good and evil, but it goes beyond that. Darkness is the power he chose, but it's also a persona. He chooses to present himself as evil as possible, and failing that, at least morally ambiguous. He absolutely has a deceitful streak, and will portray the image he needs to get what he wants and betray others' expectations as necessary. Given the right circumstances, he's capable of killing someone without batting an eye, after having claimed them as a temporary ally. And while less directly, he's summoned kaiju to help him wipe out whole cities. There are limits to what his conscience will allow him to do—quite a lot, in fact—but he has frequently gone out of his way to keep anyone else from figuring out exactly what those limits are.

Insecure – The entire reason he ended up choosing to ally with darkness was because he tried to be a warrior of light and failed. He and Gai went together to see whether one of them would be chosen by the Light to become an Ultraman. Both of them thought that he would be the one chosen, but the Light pushed him away and chose Gai instead. The events that followed only rubbed in that he just wasn't good enough. He's been disappointed in himself since the Light rejected him, and fell increasingly to his nihilistic philosophies over time. He fell back on finding any way possible to be strong, no matter how destructive or detested. When it comes down to it, he wants to be acknowledged—by Gai, by the Light, by anyone who can sufficiently prove to him that being rejected as the Warrior of Light doesn't equate to being a complete and utter failure. He built up his dark powers to fight against Gai, because he thought that if he could at least get Gai to say, honestly, that he was the stronger of them, it would mean he was worth something. And being the stronger one became nothing short of an obsession. He needed to prove to himself that he was worthwhile, or he needed Gai to kill him and end his suffering, one or the other. … and truth be told, what he was actually going for was more often the latter.

He combines this with being too prideful to admit his weaknesses and tell people what he needs. Part of why he fell as hard as he did was because Gai failed to read the cues that said he needed support, but also he didn't directly say it; he expected Gai to guess and then got angry and miserable when he didn't. He's defensive and prickly and pushes people away when what he actually needs is for them to be closer. He can put on enough to an act to impress just about anyone in some form or another, but he's very bad at letting relationships develop any depth unless the other person manages to navigate through all his defenses and the emotional minefield behind them.

Dramatic – Juggler loves drama. He's very image conscious and does everything with his own vision of style and flair, from shamelessly flirting, to reveling in the destruction he causes, to waxing poetic about the darkness in this or that person's heart. He exaggerates for effect and gets great enjoyment out of trying to knock people down to his level, or playing up the ways the other person is making him suffer... or just getting an entertaining reaction out of them. He's the sort of person who will not only make a dramatic appearance, but will do it by appearing directly behind you, whispering his greeting into your ear, and watching you jump.

Heroic – Despite the inordinate amount of time he spent trying to make himself into the perfect villain, he originally wanted to be a hero, and it's in his nature. This is where the limits mentioned under “dark” come into play—when he's presenting himself as villainous, he does a good job of playing it off, but if one pays close attention, it's easy to see that there are still a lot of lines he won't cross. He continually says he wants Gai dead, but he never makes a serious attempt on his life, despite ample opportunity. He intentionally makes Naomi, the series's leading female, uncomfortable by invading her personal space and putting on a flirtatious act, but always does so in a way that's actually pretty harmless and always gives her plenty of room to get away. He does have the capacity for murder, but the only people we ever see him kill are invading aliens who could arguably be considered more evil than he is.

But to clench it, he saves people from danger despite himself. In a noteworthy incident prior to the main series, he engineered a fight between Ultraman Orb and a giant monster that resulted in a huge explosion (set up as an exact mirror to the Tunguska event, though they don't actually name it that), but wound up rescuing Gai's girlfriend at the time from the blast, even going out of his way to heal her. He never told Gai, letting him come to his own wrong conclusion that she'd died in the explosion, but that was motivated by his own confusion and shame over it conflicting with his own dark self-image. Toward the end of the series, he does something similar with Naomi, protecting her from danger even when he'd been threatening to kill her moments before.

Somewhat irrelevant to the canon point, but as a general character note, he's starting to come to terms with this in the sequel movies. Much as he's still his somewhat frustrating self, and he happily disappears again after everything is finished, there's no question in the most recent movie that he's acting as one of the good guys the whole time.

Powers and Abilities:
Swordsmanship – Juggler is very proficient in a sword style known as the Serpent-Hearted Way. His appropriately named Serpent-Hearted Sword also has some magical properties to it. First off, he seems to be able to make it appear and disappear at will (and he seems to use it a couple times to open portals to take other things in and out of, so I guess it just has some kind of general hammerspace ability.) He can also use it to launch energy attacks, making a crescent shaped cut from a distance. The attack grows stronger if there's ambient dark energy to absorb, and glows purple when using an energy ability.

Dark Ring and Kaiju Cards – Through use of a handheld device known as the Dark Ring and cards containing the spirits of Kaiju, he is able to summon giant monsters that happily then go wreck cities. At the canon point I'm taking him from, he can't actually do this because he's lost the Dark Ring. He still has the cards but no way to activate them.

Kaijin form – Juggler has an alternate form that basically gives him armor and extra strength. In this form he can also fly/hover.

Strength/Speed – Even in his human-appearing form, he's significantly stronger and faster than a normal human.

Energy blasts – He can throw a ball of dark energy as an attack.

Teleportation – He can appear and disappear at will, and frequently uses this just to freak people out.

Healing – As far as we know, he's only done this once, to save Natasha. It seems to require a massive energy exchange, and he literally sacrificed part of himself to be able to do it. The one time he did is the source of the crescent shaped scar on his chest that's highly visible in his kaijin form. (We never see him bare-chested so it's unknown if his human form also shows this. I like to think the answer is yes but it's fainter since he was in his kaijin form when he did it.)

He also canonly seems to have the ability to travel through space and shift between dimensions, but those are obviously game-breaking and won't be relevant.

Inventory: His sword and his kaiju cards (even though he has no actual way of using them for anything)

Name: Tristan LeBlanc
Occupation: Counselor for students at Green Valley
Personality: Tristan is friendly, professional, but above all caring. The type of counselor who genuinely puts the welfare of the students he works with first, and cares about professional bureaucracy only to the extent necessary to keep doing his job. He fully believes that the key to a happy life is fun, and while he's not the only counselor available to Green Valley students, he's the one who tends to wind up with the particularly difficult cases because he's often able to get through to them in a way that more serious types just can't. It helps that he had his own share of issues when he was younger, and while he's succeeded in getting his life where he likes it now, it's enough to deeply understand where the kids are coming from.

Outside of work, he has a pretty solid personal life. He performs with a local community theater on a volunteer basis, and is generally happy with it despite hardly ever having any kind of major role. While he wouldn't claim he has a lot of very close friends, he's social, and goes out to meals or bars with people he knows from work or the theater on a semi-regular basis. Easily the most important person in his life is his husband (a firefighter and--as Tristan will point out with some mix of pride and amusement--very attractive and an excellent pick for the July spread on last year's calendar. There may or may not be a room in their house where he insists on it always being July.)

People he knows:

Husband
(not apped yet but there are plans)

Friends and Coworkers
Christina Vineyard (Vermouth) - School drama teacher; her classes and his hobbies give them plenty to talk about

Students:
Kei Nein (Taro Watanabe) - Party kid in perpetual trouble
Riki Itsumi (Ken Amada) - Going to counseling to cope with family turmoil
John Miles - Formerly in counseling for issues with bullying; Tristan also frequents his family's cafe

The player for this journal is over 18. The easiest method of contact is via PM. I use plurk and discord, but mostly for friends, so things about assorted meme threads are likely to get lost. That said, if we're memeing a lot and you want to generally be added to my plurk timeline, let me know.

I am totally fine with backtags! I understand that life happens and will happily pick up old threads where they left off if we're both still interested, particularly with regard to memes since those don't have to tie into any overarching game plots. That said, I'm not always sure how other people handle that, so I admit I'm likely to just move on from threads I've left go for several days for whatever reason. If you haven't heard from me in a while and want something to keep going, tell me! Chances are either the notif got lost and I didn't realise it was my turn, or I'm making an incorrect assumption that the slowness will frustrate you.

I also don't mind answering questions or puzzling out how to work out situations/assumed CR/whatever, so if you ever want clarification on something, you're welcome to PM.

If you want a general list of things I groove on in fiction, you can find that here!

Juggler is an alien, a canon dimension-hopper, and very very old. As such, you get your choice of canon point and setting. He's very easy to cross over into other canons, so I'm pretty happy to toss him just about anywhere.

At every canon point, he appears 100% human save for the superpowers, which include flying, teleporting, being unusually fast, being able to survive in space, and being able to transform into a scary looking armored thing (which he will generally do whenever he needs to be serious in a fight, whether that shocks people or not. He really doesn't care about maintaining a secret identity.) Most of his timeline (covered by the middle two on the list below) also includes him collecting cards and using them to summon giant monsters.

Note: Despite keeping the summaries here short, this section necessarily contains a few spoilers. You've been warned.

Origin (uses alternate journal [personal profile] serpenthearted)
Situation: As a cocky young swordsman, he tries to become a superhero. He isn't chosen; instead his friend Gai is, surprising them both. And then life just generally sucks.
Likely settings: Anywhere. He's not really sure what to do with himself.
First Impression: Cool, harsh, independent. Goes out of his way to prove he's strong.
Under the Surface: Intensely emotionally wounded. Failing to be chosen by the Light set off all sorts of insecurities. Feeling like he then couldn't keep up with Gai anymore (despite being the stronger of them to start) made it worse. Thanks to various canon events, he feels unwanted and alone. Ultimately, he still wants to prove that he can be the hero he wanted to be; his demeanor may be a bit offputting and his methods might strike as a little ruthless, but his heart is in the right place.
Best for: War scenarios or other opportunities to make himself useful by fighting. Shipping with kind people who'll see that he's hurting.

After Rusalka
Situation: A lot of time has passed since the first canon point, and he's long given up on any attempts to be good. Lacking anything more productive to do, Juggler sets out to wreck Gai's life. He ends up saving Gai's girlfriend instead, and then wonders what the fuck happened.
Likely settings: Anywhere that isn't Earth, or at least isn't the same Earth he was just on. He wants to be far away.
First Impression: Mysterious. Melodramatic. Nice clothes. Flirty. Polite but unsettling.
Under the Surface: He's built up a nice dark self-image for himself by this point, and is having a difficult time dealing with that image being threatened by his own unconscious actions. Shaken and trying to reestablish who he is. This is the timeframe where he's least likely to talk about himself at all, unless it's to say something cryptic implying he might be evil. He just wants to get away and forget everything.
Best for: Winding up in weird locations he wouldn't normally be found in. Shipping with less nice people who won't get on his case about trying to find good in him and won't pry into his past. Easiest option for smut, probably.

Main Series
Situation: Having thoroughly convinced himself that he is every bit the villain he's tried to make himself into and that he needs to beat Gai once and for all, he does what any good villain does: wreck Tokyo with giant monsters.
Likely settings: Tokyo. He is in the middle of plans. Though it's possible he could be dragged somewhere else unwillingly through odd circumstances.
First Impression: Same as above, but determined. Focused on Gai as his enemy. Increasingly unhinged. Inclined to find and point out the worst in everyone.
Under the Surface: He's tired of everything. He still wants the acknowledgement and reassurance he never got from Gai early on. He still wants to forget everything that happened in Rusalka. He mostly wants all of this to be over, and thinks maybe it would be if Gai was dead, except when it comes down to it, he doesn't want to kill him, either. This is a crisis point; a last ditch effort to make Gai acknowledge him, or destroy everything trying.
Best for: Scheming. Crazy moments. Disaster scenarios that he probably caused.

Movie
Situation: After more or less making up with Gai, he finds his true role as frustrating antihero.
Likely settings: Anywhere, but barring odd circumstances, it'll never be too long before he ends up back in Tokyo.
First Impression: Rusalka notes continue to apply, but he's more relaxed and playful.
Under the Surface: He's coming to terms with not being a villain and remembering how to be a good guy. He still likes getting under people's skin and making them question his motives, but it's much more mischievous than evil, and he'll go out of his way to work against the villains of the moment and protect the people he cares about.
Best for: Any scenario that could use a ridiculous drama queen alien. General non-shippy things, since there's enough established connection with Gai and Naomi at this point to make him not all that interested in anyone else. He might still flirt, though, just because.

Shipping/Smut

There's a kink list here. Exactly how interested I am in NSFW threads at any given time is pretty variable, and I'm generally willing to roll with other people's preferences. Sexy threads, nonsexy threads, fade to black, it's all good. I'm mostly in it for emotional content, either way, whether that's relationshippy or just generally psychological.

That said, I am basically always good with shipping Juggler. He's had a long and lonely life that forever needs more fluff in it. Given Juggler, romance is likely to be subtle and slow-burn, even if it might lead off with over the top flirting.
